CymaSpace is pleased to announce the continuation of it’s monthly creative jam and social mixer, open to the public; ARTJAM.
New for 2016, the jam will be known as ARTJAM to better match the diversity of creative artists in the Pacific NW and present opportunities for both finished and in-progress works to be presented to an enthusiastic audience. CymaSpace volunteers will also be supporting use of the sessions to develop art-technology concepts that will be featured and made available to performers during the Art & Accessibility Showcase event series beginning June 2016.
At CymaSpace, our mission is to make arts and cultural events more inclusive to the Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing community. Many of our art-technology themes are centered around facilitating an experience the arts and culture from an entirely new perspective.
We believe that accessibility can be an art form in it’s own right! Featured works often incorporate multiple senses such as translating sound into light and vibration. Other projects include interactive installations, showcases of American Sign Language (ASL) as a performance medium and creative text captioning projection (display of words) of performance narratives.
Many of our volunteers and collaborators know ASL! If you are new to Sign Language and Deaf Culture don’t be shy to ask our volunteers to introduce you to some of the basics!
