As a non-profit organization, CymaSpace relies on volunteers and sponsors to keep it up and running.
Have some spare time to help out?
We are currently looking for volunteers to help us with a variety of roles. If interested in donating your time or building your resume/experience for any of the roles listed, please send us a message on our Contact Form explaining how you would like to help out and your current availability.
Audio Engineers
As an Audio engineer, you will be directly supporting the founder & president to delivering an enjoyable & unique experience for the performers & guests at performance events. This involves setting up microphones and using the in-house mixer to monitor the room mix & ensuring optimal levels for a high quality live recording for later mix-down.
Uniquely, CymaSpace has custom built sound-reactive light & vibration installations that respond to the frequencies & amplitudes of audio fed into the system so this would be an opportunity to interact with new technologies and acquire new skills.
We require you to be available for a 1 hour orientation & training session and to be available at least 1 weekend evening each month.
This is a volunteer role however in return we are able to offer free time & use of CymaSpace’s facilities for live tracking & recording of your own projects or events with access to a large, comfortable & sound-treated space.
Videographers/Video Editors
Along with our goal for a multi-sensory music experience, we would like to compile a video archive of our live events. Though knowledge & experience of operating DSLR cameras & working with Final Cut Pro is preferred, we are offering training and the opportunity to learn & acquire new skills through hands-on experience, we can also offer free time & use of CymaSpace’s facilities for your own video & photo shoots in a comfortable & sound-treated space.
We require you to be available for a 1 hour orientation & training session and to be available at least 1 weekend evening each month.
Website Designers/Coders & WordPress Gurus
The CymaSpace website is in need of design & coding assistance. We are using the tremendous open-source WordPress platform but a certain amount of code hackery is required to deliver a better experience for online visitors and provide resources to artists & volunteers. HTML/CSS/JS/PHP are desirable skills but some familiarity with WordPress, copy writing and a willingness to learn are all welcome qualities.
This is a volunteer role but in return we can offer free attendance for you and 1 guest at all of our events.
Programmers / Electronics Engineers
Do you love to program, hack and make? Are you familiar with Arduino, processing, puredata, low voltage electronics and are looking for some inspiration and a friendly bunch of fellow collaborators to build awesome frontier expanding projects in the world of live performance arts? We need to hear from you!
During the Summer we have a monthly hack sessions where our collaborators meet to work on new installations and innovative projects using open source technologies. There is always something interesting to get involved with and to develop your own skills. This is a volunteer opportunity but in return we offer free pizza and beverages and the chance to mingle with a bunch of very smart and kind people.
ASL Interpreters
We are very excited to be developing an innovative Deaf outreach program with a mission to make live performance arts more accessible to those who may not be able to perceive or understand lyrics, spoken word/poetry & presentations/workshops.
This is a great chance for ASL interpreter students/newly grads to get “hands-on” experience for your resume. A reputation for high quality interpreted experience is extremely important to CymaSpace so volunteers will be vetted and are encouraged to help us secure accessibility grants & funding for the future potential of funding our accessibility efforts.
Event Staff (Set-up/Breakdown, Door Handlers, Concessions)
We also need an on-going rotating roster of volunteers to help out during events to ensure an enjoyable and safe experience for all involved. We need help with light cleaning & set-up prior to the start of events as well as clearing at the end. Door handlers are required to receive guests, collect door fees, donations and monitor behavior of artists and guests. This is a very important role and events would not be possible without it.
Donations welcome
Cash & in-kind donations are also much needed to help keep us growing. Please consider attending one of our events and donating whatever you can afford in our drop-box.
We are also in need of (or access to) the following equipment:
- Digital Projector
- Folding/stackable Chairs
- Vocal & Instrument Microphones/Stands/XLR Cables
- Bass Amp/Cabinet
- Headphone Distribution amp(s)
- Laser Cutter
