Music + Tech + Accessibility = Love (eBay Tech Tuesday Meetup)
Join CymaSpace & eBay PDX for a multi-sensory talk and showcase of the exciting work that CymaSpace has been doing to make performing arts more accessible by incorporating technology, cymatics and the celebration of Deaf Culture.
What to expect?
An engaging talk by the founder of CymaSpace on the topic of new frontiers for music, technology and accessibility leading to multi-sensory technology demonstrations that incorporate the translation of sound into light and vibration.
We have two performers, Invisible City and Bethany Dongiovanni.
Invisible City
“Invisible City is a duo comprised of Joshua Ward (harp, electronics)
and Derek Hunter Wilson (piano, drones, and violin). Interested in the
ephemeral and conversational aspects of music, they explore these
qualities through improvisation and creating textured sound
environments.”
Bethany Dongiovanni is a local performing artist. “A listen will let you know what this artist is all about. Passionate and original, Bethany is the fourth generation of female singer/songwriters in her family. Just trying to find comfort in the notes and plucking away quietly so as not to wake her family in the still night hours, she first learned to play the guitar at age 14. To date she has recorded 2
self-produced albums and has written over 30 original tunes. She combines a raw folk/rock style with lyrical content that is both self-reflective and easily relatable.”
Bethany Dongiovanni will be accompanied by a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) performing interpretive American Sign Language (ASL).
On display will be technology built by the team at CymaSpace & Audiolux Devices.
Sound Reactive LED installation that translates sound and music into light color and movement patterns.
Wireless Headphones provided by Heartbeat Silent Sound Systems for all attendees for immersive high fi audio experience
Vibro-haptic tactile experience of sound.
Two visitors sit on a vibro-haptic bench prototype designed at CymaSpace to feel sound and music via vibration and touch.
CymaSpace founder Myles de Bastion will be giving a talk for approximately 30 minutes, interspersed with sets from the musicians and demonstrations of of our unique technology. American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters will be provided throughout the event.
